Why can't I sell my Solana token?
Your buy went through, the price moved, and now every sell transaction fails. There are four realistic explanations, and only one of them is fixable. Here is how to tell which one you are looking at.
1. The token has an active freeze authority (a honeypot)
This is the most common reason, and the worst one. On Solana, whoever created a token can keep the freeze authority — the power to freeze any holder's token account. A frozen account cannot transfer, which means it cannot sell.
Scammers use this deliberately. You can buy freely, the chart looks healthy, and then your sell reverts with an error like Account is frozen or custom program error: 0x11.
Can you fix it? No. If the creator froze your account, the tokens are stuck and there is no workaround — not a different DEX, not more slippage, not a different wallet. This is why the check has to happen before you buy.
2. There is no liquidity left (a rug pull)
Liquidity is the pool of real money backing the token. If the creator never locked or burned the liquidity pool tokens, they can withdraw that money at any moment. When they do, there is nothing left to sell into — your sell fails, or fills at effectively zero.
Can you fix it? No. The money is gone. Checking whether liquidity is locked or burned beforehand is the only defence.
3. A transfer fee or transfer hook is blocking you
Tokens built on the newer Token-2022 standard can carry transfer fees or "transfer hooks" — custom code that runs on every transfer and can be written to reject sells while permitting buys.
Can you fix it? Sometimes. A high transfer fee still lets you exit, just expensively. A hostile transfer hook does not.
4. Your slippage is too low, or you are out of SOL
This is the good outcome. On a thin or fast-moving token, a 1% slippage setting will fail repeatedly — the price moves between quote and execution. Raising slippage to 5-15% usually gets the sell through.
Also check your SOL balance. Every transaction costs a network fee, and selling an SPL token may need a small amount of rent for a temporary account. If you spent everything buying, you can be left unable to afford the sell itself.
Can you fix it? Yes. Raise slippage, and keep about 0.01 SOL unspent as a fee buffer.

Check a token — freeThe uncomfortable summary: three of the four causes cannot be undone once you are holding. The only reliable protection is checking the token before the buy, which is exactly what WalletAI does automatically on every trade.
